Holyland is a Drama based on the Manga with the same name. Yu has always been bullied in High School as well as outside of school. Yu finally gets fed up and decides to learn how to fight. At first he learns the basics of boxing. while learning he becomes a natural at doing the “One, Two” punch. This helps him defeat the bullies picking on him, but it also brings him to the attention of the rest of the gangs in town. He eventually gets named Yankee Hunter. Every yankee wanting to make a name for himself chases and looks to defeat the Yankee hunter.

Ishigaki Yuma plays Kamishiro Yu and he does a great job at it. It is almost as if the character from the manga comes alive. Izawa Masaki, Yu’s rival/mentor is played by Tokuyama Hidenori. Masaki is used as a way to inform the user about fighting techniques and how the streets work in Holyland. Both actors have experience in playing Yankees Yuma was in Gokusen and Hidenori was in Great Teacher Onizuka. This series is alot more serious then Gokusen and GTO. The focus on the story is fighting and Yu’s mental state through out the whole thing.

So this series is not really a comedy. it’s more of an action, psychological drama. A focus on explaining multiple martial arts and how they are effective in street fighting. It also focuses on Yu’s mental status as he struggles to find his own place where he can be happy. The drama is currently being subbed by Ikemen Subbing althou a bit slowly, but the wait is worth it. Currently on episode 7 and I can’t wait to watch more.
As for the manga you may like it if you enjoyed Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru, Tiji-Kun! and Grappler Baki you will probably enjoy this serious.

This season leaves very little to be desired. There has not been any good JDrama that I have been interested in. The only Drama that seems to have peeked my interest this season is Yankee-Kun to Megane-chan. A drama based on the manga with the same name.

Shinagawa Daichi is a delinquent that has accidentally become one through several misunderstandings. Now he spends his school days fighting his way through other Yankees while his class fears him. Adachi Hana the new class president has taken an interest in Daichi, Ofcourse this causes alot of trouble for him. Hana-chan has a secret on her own. This secret and her continued interest in Daichi’s life keeps him from leading a quiet High School life.

Three episodes into the series and it has been very faithful to the orginal manga in terms of visuals. Hana-chan is very cute and very hyper just like her Manga counter part. while poor Daichi is kept busy keeping up with Hana-chan. Hana-chan is played by Naka Riisa. I haven’t seen many of her dramas but she seems to be doing a great job playing Hana. Same goes for Narimiya Hiroki. Last time I saw him was in the Gokusen 2009 movie playing someone who graduated from high school 7 years ago. (Gokusen 2003)
Gokusen. this series just reminds me too much of Gokusen and Hana-chan reminds me of YanKumi. Everything from her enthusiasm of school life and ger ability to make any Yankee do her bidding. I have already seen a warehouse fight (how do they know where the badguys hideouts are?) and there has been an episode of convincing a student to come back to school.

This series follows the path of many comedies like My Boss My Hero, GTO and Gokusen. So if you liked those, then you will love Yankee-Kun to Megane-chan.

Majisuka Gakuen. Is the story of a transfer student called Maeda Atsuko. She transferred to an all-girls school called Majisuka Gakuen. This is not your normal school. This school has a long legacy of being a school full of Yankees ( Japanese Gangs). Maeda Also has a secret past. She is a strong fighter which makes her a target for all the Yankees trying to become part of the strongest gang in the school, Rappappa otherwise known as the Art club.

Maeda’s parents were also Yankees when they were young, her mom even attended Majisuka when she was in high school, beat out the current principal of the school in order to marry Maeda’s father.
The school is broken up into several gang all ruled by Rappappa. The President and Vice-president of Rappappa rule over the 4 queens of the school, and each queen runs their own group of gangs. The gangs is where the series really shines. Its almost like watching a live action manga. All the gangs have their own personalities and their own variations of their school outfits. An example of this appeared in the first episode where newly transferred student Onisuka Daruma fights the Golden Eyebrow Society Gang. This gang had bright red high heels, wearing mask and of course had Golden colored eyebrows. Daruma easily defeated the Golden Eyebrow gang but was soon taken out by Team Hormone. Team Hormone doesn’t have a uniform as strange as Golden Eyebrow but they do wear what looks like P.E. Jackets with their gang name on it. Team Hormone are later defeater by Maeda, which triggers Daruma and Team Hormone to become allies to Maeda. Team Hormone helps explain the workings of Majisuka High school.
In the first 5 episode we also encounter the Sanshou Sisters, a trio dressed up as Lolita girls with their slogan “small but spicy”. The Kabuki sisters, a couple of strong girls who’s face is painted in kabuki paint and the older one uses an open palm style of fighting that gave them the name Kabuki. We also encounter a Cross dressing lesbian Gakuran and the Hyakunin Isshua club member Choukoku.

Maeda’s closest thing to a friend in Majisuka High school is Daruma. After getting saved by Maeda, Daruma chases Maeda calling her Atsu-ne and acting like a bodyguard. She is the main source of comedic relief in the series. Often pulling out a chicken wing each time Maeda wins a battle. Daruma usually ends up getting beaten up before Maeda is forced to fight. Maeda hates fight, probably due to her secret past that is slowly revealed in each episode, If they make fun of her or taunt her by saying that she isn’t serious, Maeda will fight. In Gokusen’s Yankumi fashion, Maeda will remove her glasses and begin to kick butt.
Aside from Maeda’s mom and the school Principal, it seems like all the adults in the series are pushovers. The Home room teacher seems to get beat up by the students every episode. The Nurse is a pervert who wants to “heal” the wounds of the students.
This drama stars the group AKB48 an all-girl Theater group/Idol group. The acting can be a bit cheesy at times often parodying all those Yankee dramas we grew to love. When characters explain things such as the one inch punch, other characters response by saying something like “Really?” or “What are you a commentator.” I’m really enjoying the series, I am wishing that the episodes where a bit longer. They are only 30 minutes long which isn’t your standard size for a Japanese Drama. I will continue watching just to try and find out the rest of Maeda’s past as well as how Rappappa will handle the situation.

This is the story about Manhattan, a small coffee shop next to Chuo TV’s Office. The Owner (name unknown) is passionate about his coffee and wants to bring his passion to his customers. The problem is that most of his customers are the people from Chuo TV’s Offices. Instead of trying his coffee they come in to the Manhattan in order to fight, break up and pretty much bring drama to Tencho’s (everybody calls the Owner Tencho, He would prefer to be called Master) Coffee shop.
Manhattan Love Story is best described as a parody of a melodrama. Tencho’s customers are the cast and Tencho is just there to witness and comment about whats going on in front of him at least thats what he wants to do until he gets frustrated enough to meddle into the life of his customers.
Tencho is played by Matsuoka Masahiro He does a great job with this roll you can belive that he has a true passion for coffee and his cafe. Matsuoka is the reason why I’m watching this series. I first saw Matsouka act in Yasuko to Kenji He played a once Yankee now manga artist character a good drama to watch if you have the time.

A new season of Japanese dramas and I’m excited! This is probably one of the better seasons in a while. Here is a quick run down that will be airing this week!
Majisuka Gakuen: This actually just aired its first episode, its fantastic! Not much info on it yet but it stars AKB48 and its about an all girls high school, not you’re average Girls high school, this high school is full of gangs! I see this being a great series along the lines of Gokusen and GTO, the only thing is that the person who will save this school is not a teacher but a student. I will be watching and hoping that someone subs it.
Shinsengumi PEACE MAKER: This Drama is based on the manga with the same name. The story is about a kid wanting to join the Shinsengumi to avenge the death of his parents. This one I’m a bit scared of. It has the potential of being great yet they also have the potential of ruining a great anime/manga. So far I’m scared that it might suck. No trailer for it so no way of knowing if its lighthearted or extremely serious. Can’t wait till I get my hands on this show.
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge: Another one based on a popular anime/manga. I always thought Yamato Nadeshiko would make a fantastic Japanese Drama, nowt I get to see if its true. It stars Kamenashi Kazuya best known for being part of KAT-TUN and Akira from Nobuta wo Produce. It also stars NEWS member Tegoshi Yuya. I can’t wait to check it out, Nakahara Sunako is being played by an actor I’ve never seen before Omasa Aya, I hope she does a good job.
Tokujo Kabachi!!: The only reason I want to watch this is because it stars Horikita Maki probably best known for her role of Ashiya Mizuki in Hana-Kimi and Sakurai Sho best known as a member of Arashi. a great cast and Maki-chan is just too cute to miss.
So those are the four that I will defiantly be watching once they start airing.
Other interesting Dramas this season:
Angel Bank: This could be a possible Gokusen clone except she ends up leaving the school she is teaching for a new career.
Ryoma den: another series based during Bakumatsu period focusing on Sakamoto Ryoma a revolutionary instead of focusing on the Shinsengumi.
Massugu Na Otoko: This one stars Sato Ryuta, he is a fantastic actor, He was great in ROOKIES. another series that I want to watch him in is Konkatsu! that aired last summer.
So there you have it. This season is going to be great!

Current list of Japanese Drama I have watched. Been thinking about writing some reviews for the following dramas. I’ve already written something for Samurai High school. my only problem is rewatching alot of these once again. which shouldn’t be too bad. I do tend to be a bit picky about what Japanese Drama I watch. Drama tend to be alot harder to keep up with then Anime mainly because of the length of the dramas, an hour vs. 30 minutes.

Samurai High school is about a high school kid named Mochizuki Kotaro, he is kinda of a wuss, always trying to avoid any trouble. He is forced by his teacher to write an essay about japanese history. He ends up going to a mysterious library where he is given a journal about a warrior named Mochizuki Kotaro. Some fairly fancy graphics occur and what seems to happen is the soul of the samurai Kotaro gets put into the High school kid Kotaro.

It’s not until he hits his head does Samurai Kotaro come out and saves the day. In this particular episode Kotaro gets harassed by a group of fan girls for money to help support the big golf sport star from their school. apparently these girls has been bullying everybody to be able to get close enough to the golf star. After they try to force one of Kotaro’s classmate to try and shoplift Kotaro is forced to act. Of course High school kotaro is clumsy and falls down the stairs he hits his head and transforms into Samurai Kotaro. His transformation to samurai was kinda cool the first time we saw it but the second time it got a bit annoying. Samurai Kotaro ends up saving Shirota Yu from being forced to shoplift but at the end of the episode, it seems like nothing is resolved. The bullies are not really punished and it seems like the teachers don’t do anything to stop the bulling because they are afraid that they will loose the schools reputation.

I know that there is probably never going to be a live action version of bleach. Yes there is a Rock Opera but I want a Drama! A live action version of the show. Since there are so many characters in Bleach the dorama version would have to be epic. Similar to the Shinsengumi! drama it would have to be epic and full of well known actors. So here is my wish list of actors that i would cast for the live action version of Bleach.
Ichigo would be played by Matsumoto Jun
Isshin Kurosaki would be played by Sato Ryuta
Kisuke Urahara would be played by Katori Shingo
Yasutora Sado would be played by Shitaro Yu
Rukia Kuchiki would be played by Horikita Maki
Orihime Inoue would be played by Fukada Kyoko
Uryu Ishida would be played by Kikawada Masaya
Sosuke Aizen would be played by Oikawa Mitsuhiro
Retsu Unohana would be played by Kashii Yu
Shigekuni Yamamoto would be played by Ichimaru Masachika
Ikkaku Madarame would be played by Tanaka Koki
Momo Hinamori would be played by Aragaki Yui
So these are the main people that I would cast. I’m sure my list would grow as I continue to watch anime and dorama.
