Yahoo and WordPress

Looks like Yahoo! upgraded to a newer version of WordPress. We were running version 2.3.3 for a very long time and now we are running version 2.6.2. I know this isn’t the newest version but its a vast improvement over the previous version. I know that version 2.6.5 has just been released but I might hold out on trying to Install that on my server. Many people out there complain about yahoo web service being crap and how it doesn’t work. I have never really experience any issue with any of the stuff that I have installed or run. Yes Yahoo is currently running version 4.3.11 an older version of PHP, but it gets the job done, it connects to the database outputs what needs to be output it and its done. Yahoo Small Business! Web Hosting Is just for Small Business. Don’t try to run some multi-million dollar company on the damn things.

One thing that I do have a gripe on Yahoo! is the fact that you cannot run server side applications. You cannot install Zend Optimizer or any sort of shopping cart application on Yahoo’s system. You cannot Modify the .htaccess file, a big turn off for people wanting to use CMS software. I’ve noticed that aside from a few features stuff like Joomla will work fine on yahoo shared hosting. To be honest any web developer worth anything should be able to adjust and develop on yahoos platform. Do not copy and paste code from other locations! Unless the server is setup exactly the same as Yahoo! shared servers it will probably never work perfectly. To be honest you are not going to be running any large web 2.0 fancy website on yahoo’s shared server. No ruby on rails nothing like that.
